Hoboken NJ Small Talk

February 3, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Hoboken_real_estate_newsDue to a slow start to my Tuesday, I just wanted to bring up a couple points.  First, Hoboken residents are rightfully relentless about having their voices heard by unpopular Mayor Roberts.   LowerHobokenTaxes.com has been doing a great job putting their efforts where there mouths are spreading flyers, arranging rallies.  What is this doing to the real estate market?  It’s definately not accelerating it.  Owners and sellers are going to be required to lower prices to adjust to this tax increase, plain and simple.  Buyers are firm on the belief that higher taxes mean “drop your pants.”  Sorry sellers…no matter the size of your…..real estate, dropping your pants is one of your only options unless you want to ride it out and hold onto your drawers.

Yesterday was February 1 and Hoboken residents were walking in short sleeve shirts and left their pea coats inside.  Smokers were abundant yesterday loitering outside their office buildings like it was spring, enjoying casual conversation and a couple of refreshing heaters.  Per the weather channel, some areas in Hudson County reached 53 degrees!  WOW!  Take the covers off of the pools!  Hold on a sec…ok I’m back….It is less than 24  hours since the heat wave and I am looking out my window right now and see SNOW!  What the F$%#????  Last week, we were begging for the mercury to hit 20 degrees.  Yesterday was great.  Today is snowing.  Later this week, back in the 40’s.  Hey Mother Nature….make up your damn mind!!

For those of you needing an affordable vacation, I just booked one so I figured I’d share my 4 day 3 night stay.  I figured for my wife and I, it was going to be all inclusive to Clearwater beach Florida for about $1,500 total.  Here’s what I got.  I spent $330 for TWO round trip flights from Newark to Tampa.  I am staying at the Clearwater Hilton for $100 per night that I reserved through Hotels.com.  I bought 2 tickets for us to see the beloved Yankees play a spring training game and spent $70 for the two of them.  I’ll probably spend $650 in food and entertainment.  Shuttles and cabs for $100.

So for $1,350 I am getting an all-inclusive stay.  Add another $150 for miscellaneous stuff and I am at $1,500.  Tampa / Clearwater is a great place for jumping nightlife as well which is why it’s one of my favorite Florida areas.  Compare that to an all-inclusive weekend cruise.  Go to Tampa.
